Conna Bowls Club staged the final ses-
sion (last 16) of their annual licensed 3-
bowl Pairs Tournament for the Conna
Perpetual Shield in the local Community
Hall, with an original 98-team entry start-
ing off doing battle for the top prizes
At the Quarter-final stage Conna’s

grasshill’s Josie & Seán O’Riordan beat
them 8 - 3. Wilton’s edged though their quarter final with victory over Cox’s Hall Valerie & Sam
Jennings. The Wilton Pair then made it to the final with a clear semi-final win by 12 - 2 over Dou-
glas GAA’s Betty & Tony Kenneally, who had made it to the semi’s with a win over Douglas Com-
munity School’s Sheila & John O’Driscoll.
In the final the Wilton pair started of well with two singles and then a four to lead 6 - 0. The
Conna pair then struck back with a three but the Wilton pair struck back with a three of their
own and then a two to take charge of the final with an 11 - 3 lead. An exchange of singles over
the last thre ends ensured Josie & Seán O’Riordan took the competition with a 13 - 4 victory.
The Umpires on duty for the final session were Bridie Hamilton, Michael O’Regan & Albert
Ruxton and Noeleen Tanner the Club Captain presented the prizes, whilst the club’s Chairperson
Bernadette Feeney presented the Perpetual Trophy to Pat McCarthy, the winning Skip

Competition for the May Murray Perpetual Trophy in the Douglas Commu-
nity School Sports Hall. In the Quarter-finals.Douglas Community School’s
Esther Clifford, Noreen O’Shaughnessy, Michael J. O’Shaughnessy &
Eileen Fitzsimmons beat Carrigaline GAA’s F. Corcoran, M. Bracken, P. Tier-
ney & M. Hayes. Midleton’s Con O’Sullivan, John P. Hennessy, Callie O’-
Sullivan & Joe Kirby beat Watergrasshill’s K. O’Mahony, M. Conlon, D. West & L. Conlon. In
their quarter final, Conna’s Tom Finn, Dave Cliff, George Tanner & Adrian Tanner beat Douglas
GAA’s A. Twohig, M. O’Neill, F. Nott & D. Twohig. Completing the sem-final line up Dougls Com-
munity School’s Brenda Allen, Matt Walsh, Paul Gibbons & Gerry Allen beat Mahon (P. O’-
Murchu, B. Cronin, Martha Harrington & E. Bannon)
In the Semi-finals Midleton’s J. Kirby scored a very narrow one-shot 5 - 4 victory over Dou-
glas Community School’s Esther Clifford, Noreen O’Shaughnessy, Michael J. O’Shaughnessy
& Eileen Fitzsimmons. In another close victory by 4 shots to 2 Conna’s (A. Tanner beat Douglas
Community School’s Brenda Allen, Matt Walsh, Paul Gibbons & Gerry Allen.
In the Final Conna Tom Finn, Dave Cliff, George Tanner & Adrian Tanner opened up with
two singles but a single to Midleton’s Con O’Sullivan, John P. Hennessy, Callie O’Sullivan & Joe
Kirby but the Midleton four then scored a teo and a three to lead 7 - 1 going into the last end
with an eventual 7 - 3 victory. The Umpires on duty for the final session were Mary Boland, John
O’Driscoll, Sheila O’Driscoll & Albert Ruxton. The prizes were presented by Noreen O’Shaugh-
nessy the Club Captain) and Breda Dunlea the DCS Chairperson presented the May Murray
Perpetual Trophy to Adrian Tanner, the Skip of the winning team.
