Club, Avon, celebrated its 30th
Anniversary last November, with
a lunch at Eastwood Park and is
still going strong with a member-
ship of around 50 - 60.
There are 5 sessions a
week, 3 afternoons and 2
evenings, although unfortunately
most of our players are retired
anyway, and we would welcome
some younger members. The
Club has been very successful
over those years, with members taking part in League and County Competitions as well as qual-
ifying for the Nationals.
2 of the 4 remaining founder members, Ted King MBE and Rosemary King (formerly Har-
ris), retired from office at the AGM in November. Ted had served as Vice-Chairman for 17 years
followed by 9 as Club Chairman. At 91 he decided to stand down, and was honoured to be re-
warded by being made Club President. Rosemary, who has been an Umpire for 22 years, reach-
ing International status in 2006, had served on the Committee for 30 years and was Treasurer
for the last 20 years.
(She has also served on the Avon County SMBA Committee since 1993, was County Sec-
retary for 14 years & is currently Avon Membership Secretary.). They still intend to be a part of
the Club, having been made Life Members at the Club’s 25th anniversary in 2014. Here’s to the
next 30 years!
