SURVEILLANCE ACRONYMS AND DEFINITIONS
AKA=Also Known As
DOB=Date of Birth
IW=Injured Worker
IME=Independent Medical Evaluation
DIME=Demand IME
CW=Case Worker
SIU=Special Investigations Unit
PH=Policy Holder
AOE/COE=Arising Out of Employment/Course of Employment
DOI=Date of Injury
Target/Subject=Subject of the surveillance
Tail=To follow someone
Made=Having a subject realize you are surveilling them
Burned=Being made really BAD
Hot Neighborhood=Neighbors have become suspicious of your presence
Stationary Surveillance=Stay at one location, without moving while conducting
surveillance. Also referred to as a Stake Out
Mobile Surveillance=Following your subject in a vehicle
Foot Surveillance=Following a sujbect on foot
Time Shot/Integrity Shot=Taking a few seconds of video of surveilled location, usually
once per hour
Counter Surveillance=The act of trying to avoid being surveilled
Roping=The process of an investigator creating a situation which causes a subject to
perform activity that they otherwise would not have performed. VERY unethical.
Facial Shot=Zoom in close to obtain video of face for definitive identification purposes
Covert Surveillance =Intended to develop information without affecting the target or
subject's behavior
