When Do I Stop Paying Them and They Start Paying Me? 43 Case Management Beneft—Assistance in planning your long term care services when you require covered care. Home Assistance Beneft—This is a beneft that pays in addition to your standard daily or monthly beneft. It usually has a limit equal to about three months of your standard beneft. Here are some examples of possible Home Assistance Benefts that might be available to you: Caregiver training— train an informal, unpaid caregiver to help provide care for you while you are at home. Emergency Response Systems—This might cover the in- stallation and monitoring fees for a medical alert system. Home Modifcations, Devices or Equipment—This could pay for modifcations to your home to make it easier for you to stay there, or to purchase or rent equipment like grab bars, a wheelchair ramp, a stair lift, etc. Even before you need health care for yourself, your policy might provide other useful benefts such as: Information and referral services to help you fnd care for a loved one even if s/he does not have a long term care insurance policy. Wellness benefts that provide resources and educational information. Summary: When your doctor certifes you need substantial assistance with at least two of the six activities of daily living or you have a cogni- tive impairment that prevents you from caring for yourself, you can fle a claim on your policy.
