HISTORY
On October 1, 2002, a new support program known as McLaren Clinical Engineering Services (MCES) was created to standardize the support of technical maintenance management services on clinical equipment at McLaren hospitals located in Flint; Lansing; Bay City; Lapeer, and to our various affiliate medical office locations. Over the years, program expansions have occurred to include our hospital and affiliate sites in Macomb; Oakland; Central Michigan, and most recently, to Northern Michigan Hospital.
Goals and objectives of the program are to:
• Provide a single source for reporting the need for clinical equipment/systems (general biomedical, imaging and laboratory) maintenance and repair service.
• Provide consolidated and consistent financial management of all clinical equipment maintenance and repair programs, to include external vendor services, parts, repairs & maintenance and vendor contract services management.
• Develop enhanced levels of technical expertise for supporting end users in their use of clinical equipment technologies.
• Proactively manage and standardize the system’s Medical Equipment Management Plan and Programs in accordance with changing JCAHO Environment of Care, HFAP, AOA, CMS and other standards that pertain to use of patient care technology.
• Proactively reduce life cycle cost of ownership of medical equipment by identifying and centrally managing new equipment post warranty service needs based upon ‘best value’ mix of in-house and vendor support options.
• Proactively support the growth and development of the hospitals existing biomedical (clinical) engineering program and staff through the use of MCES shared resources; knowledge base and other professional clinical engineering resources.
• Standardize the name of the department to Clinical Engineering at all hospital locations
McLaren Clinical Engineering Services will provide best in class technology support as required to ensure quality patient care outcomes at the lowest possible cost.
