Sites of Interest in the town of Gettysburg
Gettysburg Diorama & History Center-241 Steinwehr Ave.
$10 admission includes the Diorama presentation plus the Spirit
of Gettysburg.
View the entire 6,000-acre battlefield at one time. With over
20,000 hand painted soldiers, horses, cannons and buildings, the
diorama includes a thirty-minute light and sound show of the
three-day battle of Gettysburg from the first shot fired to the last
moments at the high water mark of the Confederacy.
Dobbin House Tavern-89 Steinwehr Avenue
Gettysburg's oldest and most historic building, the Dobbin
House, was built in 1776. In the mid-1800's, a secret crawl space
served as a "station" for hiding runaway slaves on their journey
to freedom on the "Underground Railroad." After the battle of
Gettysburg and the armies had departed, it served as a hospital
for wounded soldiers of both the North and the South.

On July 3, while Jennie was kneading bread in the kitchen, Con-
federates began firing on the north side of the house, hitting it
with over 150 bullets. On Minie ball passed through two doors
and struck Jennie in the shoulder and penetrated her heart.
Rupp House-451 Baltimore Street Free
The Rupp House History Center offers visitors a glimpse of what
life was like for civilians during the Civil War, particularly the
John Rupp family who lived here during the Battle of Gettys-
burg, and the soldiers who fought in and around Gettysburg,
through interactive displays and hands-on exhibits. The public is
invited to explore the lower level of the Rupp House for free.
