The Journal has four (4) regular sections that cover some of Goal 2:
1. Practice Management (contributed by Gilsbar), touches on
professionalism by focusing on best practices;
2. Lawyers Assistance (contributed by JLAP), wellness issues as
it relates to handling addiction;
3. Focus on Professionalism (contributed by rotating authors from
the Committee on the Profession), wide range of topics but all
focused on professionalism in some way.
4. New section, “Practice Makes Perfect,” starting in the February-
March 2021 Journal, offering best practices tips gathered from
the LSBA’s Practice Aid Guide.
Professionalism articles were published in August-September 2019
Journal, October-November 2019 Journal, April-May 2020 Journal and
June-July 2020 Journal, June-July 2021 Journal, August-September
2021 Journal and October-November 2021 Journal, December 2021-
January 2022 Journal, and February-March 2022 Journal.
Practice Management articles were published in August-Sept 2019,
October-November 2019, December 2019-Jan 2020, February-March
2020, April-May 2020, June-July 2020 and August-September 2020,
and October-November 2020, December 2020-January 2021 and
February-March 2021, April-May 2021 and June-July 2021, August-
September 2021 and October-November 2021, December 2021-
January 2022, and February-March 2022 Journal, covering topics
including disciplinary complaints, fees, malpractice, risk management,
voice-activated assistants, work/life balance and hacking prevention
and practicing in a pandemic, new age lawyering and lateral moves,
disengaging clients and reasonable fees, caseloads and negative
online reviews and disaster planning and calendaring.
Lawyers Assistance articles published in August-September 2019,
October-November 2019, December 2019-January 2020, February-
March 2020, April-May 2020, June-July 2020 and August-September
2020, covering topics including mental health, stress, positive attitudes
and COVID-19/alcohol issues.
In the October-November 2020 Journal, we published a full-page JLAP
ad as Buddy Stockwell’s departure did not allow enough time to find
another author. We are currently working with JLAP President Shayna
Sonnier to obtain more articles and are expecting to resume regular
publication of this section in the December 2020-January 2021
Journal.
An article on JLAP misconceptions was published in the December
2020-January 2021 Journal. In the June-July 2021 issue, we are
publishing an article introducing incoming JLAP Executive Director Dr.
