                                        BOARD OF GOVERNORS REPORT

                                                       NOVEMBER 2, 2019

                                                         YLD Vision:
We are an essential part of the young lawyer journey and provide invaluable support.

The YLD Council met on October 18 and will meet again on January 16 in Baton Rouge. The YLD has
been very busy this year in their projects and services for both lawyers and the public.

YLD Council Elections: Danielle “Dani” Borel was certified elected as 2020/2021 YLD Secretary.
Carrie L. Jones will succeed to Chair and Graham H. Ryan will succeed to Chair-Elect. Two other
positions were also certified, and four others are contested.

ABA Young Lawyers Division Fall Conference: In early October, New Orleans was the host city for
the ABA YLD Fall Conference. LSBA YLD Council members Dani Borel and Graham Ryan were
instrumental in the planning of the conference and bringing over 200 young lawyers to New Orleans.
The LSBA YLD was a sponsor, and ABA President Judy Perry Martinez and YLD Council officers
were featured speakers at the conference. The LSBA YLD partnered with the ABA to execute a Wills
for Heroes event as their public service project.

ABA YLD Resolution: The LSBA YLD Council adopted its own model of the ABA YLD resolution
regarding access to lactation rooms in courthouses statewide. The resolution will be presented at the
January LSBA House of Delegates meeting.

ABA YLD Star Affiliate of the Quarter Award: The Southwest Louisiana Bar Association Young
Lawyers Section was presented with this prestigious award at the ABA YLD Fall Conference. Their
award was announced on LSBA YLD social media outlets.

YLD Committee Involvement: One of the goals of the Council was to engage more young lawyers
throughout the state. This year each project or committee of the YLD has been tasked to remain active
and engaged with volunteer members. All of the committees have either met in person or held
conference calls with the committee members.

High School Mock Trial: The 2020 Richard N. Ware, IV State High School Mock Trial Competition
                                       rd
will be in Gonzales at the 23 JDC District Court. The competition problem and handbook will be
            distributed via LSBA.org around Thanksgiving.

YLD Awards: The Awards Committee met and submitted their recommendations to the Council for a
final vote. The finalists will be notified by November 15 and the winners will be announced at a lunch
during the Louisiana Young Lawyers Conference in January (during the LSBA Midyear Meeting).
