Award Description:
The Citizen Lawyer Awards highlight contributions made by members of the Louisiana State Bar
Association to the civic health and quality of life within their home towns and parishes. The Citizen
Lawyer Awards recognize lawyers who perform noteworthy public service or engage in charitable and
civic activities for the benefit of others out of a sense of concern, duty, responsibility, and
professionalism. The LSBA believes it is important to acknowledge these often unsung heroes and
heroines in the communities in which they live and work. The Citizen Lawyer Awards will also inform
the public of the significant contributions of quality of life made by lawyers and judges.
The LSBA sponsors a number of awards and programs recognizing the contribution of lawyers to the
legal profession. Citizen Lawyer Awards, however, should be presented to lawyers and judges who
serve the public, particularly their neighbors.
Award Applicants:
The lawyer must be admitted to practice in Louisiana, the judge must have been elected or appointed
to a state or federal court in Louisiana.
Award Criteria:
Serving community organizations in an extraordinarily constructive way, whether in a leadership
position or otherwise. For example, serving community organizations, including youth groups,
economic development organizations, schools, universities, colleges, medical facilities, hospitals,
chambers of commerce, the arts organizations or serving in government or civic positions of
responsibility; or assisting groups or individuals on a volunteer basis in a non-legal capacity; or
Educating the public, individuals or students about legal system; or
Working in conjunction with the Court system to make it more welcoming, inviting, and understandable
for jurors, witnesses, or victims of crime; or
Bringing positive attention to lawyers within the community; or
Standing for election to and/or holding governmental office; or
Working on local groups or boards involved in the betterment of the community, such as municipal
airport authorities, library boards, or planning commissions; or
