Other Initiatives of the Practice Assistance & Improvement Committee
Production of Rule XIX Video
Another project of the Committee is the production of a 15 minute video to provide
members with information on the disciplinary process before the filing of formal charges. The
committee completed this project in April 2013.
Update of Practice Aid Guide
The Practice Assistance and Improvement Committee in conjunction with Gilsbar
published the Practice Aid Guide in 2004. The Practice Aid Guide addresses the essentials of
law office management and contains key procedures, forms and sample letters. The Practice Aid
Guide was revised in 2018. The Practice Aid Guide can be found on the LSBA website at

Summary of Disciplinary Cases
The Committee is in the process of preparing information addressing discipline and
malpractice avoidance. This information will be posted on the LSBA website and will include
case law on the Rules of Professional Conduct, Rule XIX and important malpractice cases.
Law Practice Management Program
The LSBA launched its Law Office Management Program In August 2006. The program
is designed to assist lawyers in increasing the quality of legal services they provide.
Lending Library
One component of the program is a Lending Library which consists of approximately 180
books. Members can check out books from the Bar Center. Each year additional books are
added to the library.

Full Time Law Practice Management Counsel
In March 2010, the LSBA hired a full time Law Practice Management Counsel in an
effort to expand Law Office Management services.
Solo and Small Firm Conference
The thirteenth Annual Solo and Small Firm Conference was held on March 3 & 4, 2020.
The LSBA’s Annual Solo and Small Firm Conference continues to increase in popularity, size
and scope each year. There were a record number of exhibitors supporting the Conference. Held
on March 3 & 4, 2020 at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel, the two-day conference drew 129
attorneys from across the state. We had 37 national and regional speakers on a variety of topics.
The Conference offered up to 13.5 hours CLE credit and three tracks of programming. The
tracks included substantive law, law practice management, the latest in legal technology, ethics,
professionalism, marketing and a track devoted to the newly solo practitioner. Further, with
section support, a reception was held at the hotel for attendees on Thursday night. The 2020
program topics included the following:
-Knock, Knock, Knocking on Heaven’s Door: Discussing End-of-Life Decisions with Your
Clients
-Good Social Media Evidence: Authenticate Dat; Admit Dat; How to Do Dat
-Becoming a Happy Lawyer
-Decretal Language (“It is Hereby Ordered, Adjudged and Decreed That…”) & Appealability –
What is it, What Does it Need to Say, What Happens if it’s Not There
