Your artificial eye will need to be replaced, but how often depends upon several factors:

First of all, most sockets change shape over time; and the degree of change varies with the individual. A growing child's prosthesis

will need replacement more often than an adult's; weight gain or loss may speed up the rate of socket change. The nature of the
original injury or condition that caused the loss of the eye is yet another factor.

Also, the wearer's environment affects the longevity of an artificial eye. Working in an especially dirty environment or exposure to
chemical fumes may damage your prosthesis, making it necessary to replace it more often.

Without unusually rapid socket change, most prostheses last three to five years.
