LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT
Remote Working
It’s hard to believe that our office-based colleagues have been working from home for over four months now. In this time, we have had to quickly adapt to new ways of working, embrace new technology, stay connected with our teams and deal with the many demands of family life. It has been a busy and worrying time for everyone.
In response to this new operating environment we also had to alter our learning offering and throughout April and May we delivered our first ever virtual training sessions - ‘Leading Remotely for Managers’. This short course allowed managers from across our Group sites to come together to explore and discuss managing teams remotely. The interactive sessions encouraged managers
at all levels to share ideas and best practice to help maintain business as usual for their teams. Eighty-one managers attended the sessions and the feedback was excellent.
Recruiting Remotely
In response to the pandemic we also felt it would be beneficial to provide training for our managers on ‘recruiting remotely’, as there have been key roles in the organisation that we need to fill.
For most managers remote recruitment was a new experience and it was important that we supported them with a reminder of the legislative requirements, but also some behavioural tips when interviewing using the zoom platform.
Update
“I have enjoyed the training. It’s good to do a refresh of the recruitment process too - it’s also a good forum to ask questions and hear what others are asking. It is great that we can still attend workshops albeit virtually and I am using some of the slides for my team meetings.”
Catherine Ross - Corporate Services
We are extremely grateful to our colleagues in the Information Systems department who enabled us to work from home and avail of the Zoom platform. We would encourage everyone to access the articles on the ‘Remote Working’ section of the Larder which has hints and tips to try and avoid ‘Zoom Fatigue’.

O
The course was great, I felt that the balance of content was excellent and there was the right proportion of listening and practical. The course length was just right too, enough time to really engage and think about what it means to be accountable and how to cultivate the correct culture but not too long so that the key learning points were lost in a deluge of information! The course booklet is great and I will be referring back to it on a regular basis. Barbara is a great teacher, really enthusiastic and engaging so I am looking forward to my next session.

Learning Framework
The 2020 Learning & Development calendar is now available on the Larder. Facilitator-led courses
for this year are being delivered virtually and this has been a great success so far, with all of the courses achieving a 100% attendance rate.
