Making a complaint (within the company or to
authorities) about not being paid their agreed
wages, overtime, or commissions;
In some instances, making a complaint about an
employer’s violation of the law (commonly called
“whistle-blowing”);
Taking time off of work to serve on a jury; and
Using earned sick time under the Massachusetts
Earned Sick Time law (see Chapter 2, Employee
Illness and Disability).
It is important to remember that an employee’s
report of discrimination or harassment is protected
activity, even if the claim is found to lack merit, so long
as the employee believed in good faith that he or she was
being discriminated against or harassed.
