  Making a complaint (within the company or to


               authorities) about not being paid their agreed


               wages, overtime, or commissions;


              In some instances, making a complaint about an


               employer’s violation of the law (commonly called


               “whistle-blowing”);


              Taking time off of work to serve on a jury; and


              Using earned sick time under the Massachusetts


               Earned Sick Time law (see Chapter 2, Employee


               Illness and Disability).


               It is important to remember that an employee’s


        report of discrimination or harassment is protected


        activity, even if the claim is found to lack merit, so long


        as the employee believed in good faith that he or she was


        being discriminated against or harassed.
