LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear Community Members,
As we celebrate the start of a new year and reflect on the past 12
months, I feel both honored and privileged to serve as the leader of
Marian Regional Medical Center. Due to the dedicated efforts of
Marian’s expert and committed team, I am pleased to share that 2016
was an exceptional year for the medical center as we embarked on a
new era of health care distinguished by remarkable growth, awards
of recognition, and delivering on our commitment to excellence.
Looking to the future of Marian, this issue of Innovation features many
exciting milestones and growth opportunities in the year ahead. Currently, the Marian Foundation
is in the midst of its Emergency Services Expansion Project campaign to raise $2.5 million from
community donations in order to continue elevating the level of care for all emergency and
trauma patients. Within this edition we are also pleased to share that the medical center continues
to advance its expansive array of pediatric services and will soon embark on a philanthropic
initiative to raise community dollars for the development of a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
The past year was certainly noteworthy, however as we enter into 2017, this year is one that
will be historic as the Marian Family Medicine Residency Program will graduate its first
class of physician residents in June. In its third year with 17 residents, the Marian Family
Medicine Residency Program is making a name for itself as a teaching hospital and its
academic affiliation with the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine.
Marian continues to be recognized with accolades for its commitment to quality, safety, and
service. For the third straight year in a row, Marian received an impressive “A” patient safety
score on the most recent ratings report from the Leapfrog Group and is one of only 113 hospitals
nationwide to receive straight A’s since 2013. Additionally, the medical center proudly earned five
esteemed five-star ratings from Healthgrades for heart attack treatment, critical care, total-knee
replacement, treatment of sepsis, and carotid surgery. Marian is also the recipient of two Women’s
Choice Awards for America’s Best Hospitals in Obstetric Care and Bariatric Surgery. Furthermore,
Marian is a designated acute stroke center by the Santa Barbara County Stroke Program, meaning
Marian is a receiving center for stroke patients located throughout northern Santa Barbara County.
At Marian, it is our mission to meet the needs of our patients across the continuum of
care, not just during their hospital stay but also outside the walls of our medical center. We
are truly grateful to you, our generous and loyal supporters, who not only invest in our
programs, services, and vision, but also believe in the value of Marian’s healing work.
On behalf of our health care professionals, physicians, volunteers and
patients, I wholeheartedly thank you for your support which will continue to
positively transform care for both present and future generations.
In gratitude,
Kerin A. Mase
