MERRICK GROH

Family of pediatric surgical patient expresses gratitude

Hearing the words, “Your child needs surgery,” is
terrifying for any parent. Often, it is the unknown
risks and complications of surgery that most parents
fear, and for Brad and Megan Groh, their medical
experience gave their worries a different perspective.

Brad shares, “Being in health care as nurses, we have
personally seen the complications and what can happen
during any surgery.” As nurses, both Brad and Megan
knew what risks their 18 month-old son, Merrick,
The Groh family could face during his surgery to repair a hydrocele.

The couple was concerned about little Merrick’s
                                                               surgery, however their apprehension lessened
after their son’s pre-operative appointment with
                                                               pediatric surgeon Tamir Keshen, MD.

Brad explains, “Dr. Keshen answered our many questions,
thoroughly and calmly, and reminded us that although there
is a chance for complications, those were very small chances.”

Knowing Merrick would be in good hands gave Brad and
Megan peace of mind. While it is still a terrifying experience
Brad states, “During the day of Merrick’s surgery, Dr.
Keshen and the entire Marian staff were attentive and
compassionate to Merrick’s pain, and concerns of being
in an unfamiliar place with lots of unfamiliar faces.”

Due to the expertise of the surgical services and pediatric
team, Merrick’s procedure was successful and by the
next day he was back to his normal, happy self.

Treating pediatrics is not just about the child but about the
entire family. The child’s parents and other family members
are affected when medical attention is needed. Marian’s

and are committed to providing the best care to its younger

Merrick’s surgery is an experience Brad and Megan never
anticipated, but Merrick’s outcome was the best they
could have expected. Brad says, “We are very grateful.”
