DELIVERING ON THE PROMISE
A Message From Leadership
As we embark on a new year, I want to reflect on what continues to set Marian Regional
Medical Center apart from other health care facilities; a commitment to fulfill our promise to
our community to provide exceptional care for patients, families, and our community, today,
tomorrow and in the future.
The dedication of our staff is paramount, and we know the commitment of our health care team
with the support of our community has fueled the growth and development of clinical programs
and services at Marian. Together with the community’s invaluable partnership, Marian has
become a vibrant regional teaching hospital known for service and as the
Chuck Cova area hospital of choice for clinical excellence.
Marian continues to earn accolades for quality, safety and service. Marian has been recognized
by the Leapfrog Group as an “A” rated hospital for patient safety. Marian is also proud of recent
recognition from Healthgrades, earning America’s Best 100 Hospitals for Critical Care award
and the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence. Marian and Mission Hope Cancer
Center continue to be recognized for excellence in Cancer Care, and recently, Marian earned three
esteemed Women’s Choice Awards for America’s Best Hospitals in Obstetric Care, Cancer Care,
and Bariatric Surgery. This has been a remarkable journey for Marian and our community, and a
tribute to the commitment of our dedicated employees, physicians, and volunteers. Kerin Mase
As many of you may know, in addition to serving as the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Marian, I also
serve as the Senior Vice President of Operations for Dignity Health with responsibility for all Dignity Health hospitals
and services on the Central Coast, from Paso Robles to Thousand Oaks. Since the opening of the new Marian Regional
Medical Center in 2012, Marian has experienced dramatic growth and expansion of clinical services, becoming a very
complex regional medical center. As a result, nearly two years ago, Kerin Mase, Chief Operating Officer/Chief Nursing
Executive assumed increased responsibilities for Marian.
While it has truly been an honor and joy to have served as Marian’s President and CEO, it was not possible to continue
in both roles. As such, Kerin Mase has been appointed as President and CEO of Marian. I continue serving as the Senior
Vice President of Operations for Dignity Health with overall responsibility for all Dignity Health hospitals and entities on
the Central Coast. Please know that I am not retiring, not leaving, and not going anywhere. The location of my office will
remain at Marian. In addition, I will continue spending time in the Ventura market as I have for nearly two years.
Throughout the past decade, Kerin Mase has led the development of key clinical initiatives at Marian. While moving into
the President and CEO position will be new for Kerin, I know she will approach it with the same passion and spirit that
she has demonstrated with her previous responsibilities.
As you know, Marian was founded by the Sisters of St. Francis, and this past year we celebrated 75 years of commitment
and service to our community. We are all extremely proud to be part of our health care ministry, and we always
remember that it is our continued partnership with our community that has stimulated the expansion and development
of clinical services, elevating Marian to a regional teaching medical center. We thank you and truly appreciate your
continued commitment and support.
In gratitude,
Charles J. Cova
Senior Vice President, Operations
