Education in Focus for
Leadership Lansing
JANUARY’S LEADERSHIP LANSING PROGRAM centered around issues
in the education field. The first stop of the day was a visit to the
Ingham Intermediate School District’s Wilson Talent Center in
Mason. It was amazing to see the work that is done to provide
professional trades training for young people in the tri-county region.
A special panel discussed filling the 21st-century talent pipeline.
The panel, which was moderated by Emily Matthews, manager, Dr. Chris Contag provided an overview of the amazing research being conducted at MSU’s Institute for Quantitative Health Science
and Engineering.
Dart Foundation, included Jason Mellema, superintendent, Ingham
Intermediate and Cindy Anderson, superintendent, Eaton Regional
Education Service Agency.
After that, the group headed to Michigan State University (MSU) for
an outstanding lunch program at Brody Square, followed by a behind-
the-scenes tour of Breslin Center. Vennie Gore, vice president for
Auxiliary Services, shared some of the planning involved in preparing
for students who will be coming to MSU in the next few years.
The group enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of the Breslin Center
and hearing from Allan Haller, senior associate athletic director,
MSU Athletics. The day concluded with a trip to the Institute for
Quantitative Health Science and Engineering. Founding Director, Dr.
