Dear Community Members,
Thank you for the opportunity to participate in the 38th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day
of Celebration. As my home community, this event holds a special place in my heart.
I am so pleased to join you in welcoming Presidential Medal of Freedom honoree, Fred Gray as
this year's keynote speaker. This event is an important commemoration of the life and work of
Dr. King. Your theme, "Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice
to the solid rock of brotherhood” is fitting for these historic times. I know this event involved
incredible hard work and planning and I applaud the efforts of those that made it possible.
Thank you for your support of the Commission and its important mission to honor the legacy of
Dr. King. I hope you have a memorable celebration.
Sincerely,
Debbie Stabenow
United States Senator
