Breaking a bowline
You have to love a knot that has
an inbuilt mechanism to untie
it, and which will come undone
almost no matter how hard it’s
tightened. Essentially a sheet
bend (page 80) which is tied
onto itself to form a loop, the
bowline can usually be ‘broken’
in a matter of seconds. Its main

untied (or tied) while there is a
