Prusik bottle sling

Climbers will be familiar with the Prusik knot, invented by Austrian Strength
mountaineer Dr Karl Prusik in the 1930s. Little did the good doctor know Security
that his ingenious sliding knot would be put to good use as a bottle sling. Diffi culty Tying

It’s yet another natural development which goes to show that, unlike

a good wine, knots never stand still.
1 Tie the ends of a line together to 2 Pass the line around the bottle and 3 Tease the loop out and put
make a loop, and pass it around the through the loop again, so the new in a twist (either clockwise
bottle as shown. strands slide between the old ones. or anticlockwise will do).
4 Pass the end of the sling through
the twist. Tighten all the turns so
the knot is snug against the bottle.
