Square lashing

          Whether you’re lashing a yard to the mast or making some kind of improvised   Strength

                                                                            KNOT KNOW-HOW

                                                                            Most lashings are made up of turns that
                                                                            are either ‘wrapping’ or ‘frapping’. The
                                                                            wrapping turns are applied fi rst, and
                                                                            hold the poles together. The frapping
                                                                            turns are then put around the wrapping
                                                                            turns and serve to tighten them. A
                                                                            simple rule of thumb is: ‘wrap thrice and
                                                                            frap twice’. Wedges may also be used to
                                                                            further tighten the lashing.
