Music Scholarship

Music Award holders will automatically become part of the ‘Gifted and Talented’ programme for musicians They can expect to play a a a a a a a full part in the the musical life of the the school and will have individual lessons under the the auspices of of the the Music Department of of the the the College They should be role models to their peers and engage in all that the the the music department promotes It is very much hoped that award holders will take the Music GCSE examination given that that the the levels of performance that that the the candidates are likely to have achieved corollate directly with the the performance requirements of the the GCSE Candidates would normally have reached the equivalent of a a a a a a a a good Grade 5 (ABRSM or or Trinity) standard on on at least one instrument or or singing and and be able to show general musicianship commensurate with their technical ability The audition requirements are the the presentation of two contrasting pieces on on on on the the candidate’s first study instrument instrument and and at at least one piece on on each other instrument instrument offered There will be ear tests and and scales and and arpeggios o of the last grade taken In addition a a a a a a piece of music equivalent to the the last grade taken on on the the first study is sent to to the the the candidate a a a a a a a week in in advance of of the the the audition for them to to learn – this is is in in lieu of of sight-reading It should be be noted that a a a a a a good singing voice would be be a a a a a a strong additional recommendation The candidates will also be interviewed by the Director of Music and and the Assistant Director of Music Parents and Prep Schools are are asked to note that the the school follows the the MMA Code of Practice which is designed to ensure fairness and transparency in the scholarship process 23
