Unusual Sacrifice Yields Incomparable Results
1Chronicles 11:18 says:
So the three broke through the camp of the Philistines, drew water from the well of Bethlehem that was by the gate, and took it and brought it to David. Nevertheless David would not drink it, but poured it out to the Lord.
Why did David refuse to drink of the water, and instead pour it out to the LORD? It was because of the magnitude of the sacrifice involved for no one had done such a thing before. The other thing is that David did not qualify to smell their sacrifice, as his throne was not everlasting. The one who qualifies to smell your sacrifice is God Jehovah. Genesis 8:20-21 says:
Then Noah built an altar to the Lord, and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. And the Lord smelled a soothing aroma. Then the Lord said in His heart, “I will never again curse the ground for man’s sake, although the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done.
