And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?” So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.”
Prayer and fasting is not meant for few people. No! Everybody is called to a life of prayer and fasting. As long as we have people who are still far away from God in every land, then nations or lands are still sick. However, prayer and fasting are what bring healing into those lands and those lives. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says:
If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Essentially, people fast because they are tired of being on the same level in life. They fast because they are in trouble. They fast so that they can have a new taste of divine power stored up for them. They fast because they want to build up spiritual sensitivity with God, so that they can clearly hear from God.
