Alexa Miller was also able to catch up with a few student athletes and
club members and ask them about their campus experience and how it
has been made a lot better after joining these groups and teams.
Harriet Ho, who is on the Women’s
Varsity soccer team said “After
joining the team, I have really
enjoyed my university experience. I
moved here from Hong Kong, and
although it was a big adjustment, I
have managed to make many new
friends, and fit in.” She then
continued to say, “I would definitely
recommend getting involved in the
school community, whether it’s on a
sports team, intramural team, or
club. They really help you feel like Alexa was able to interview another
you belong, and give you a break student named Angela DeSousa,
from all the stress of school”. who is part of the club Fashion for
Change. When asked about her
experience on campus she said, “It
is hard to adjust to a new school,
new community, and being away
from your family, and although it
was a bit nerve racking to put
myself out there and sign up for the
club, I do not regret it. It has
allowed me to meet so many more
people, and make new friends that
I otherwise wouldn't have had the
chance to meet.” She also said, “It
made me feel like I was a part of
the school community, and I was
making a contribution to the
campus environment”.
These two students are great examples of how joining one of the
University of Waterloo’s clubs and teams greatly impacts the campus
environment and the mental health of a student.
