Putting the pieces together
The Cornice is a magazine published annually by Rato Bangala School
that wraps up the academic year of each grade in an aim to portray the
work the students have done. Every year we would await the arrival of
the cornice but we never expected a time where we ourselves would be
creating one- digitally. The Rato Bangala Cornice, published towards the
end of each year, has been a tradition for decades. Needless to say, this
year has been the start of something different. In this time of hardship,
we hope going through the cornice lifts up your spirits and gives you
some insight on what we have achieved as students, even in such
difficult times. Most importantly, we hope to create a trail of nostalgia
for the seniors and a level of excitement for our younger ones.
For the past few months, the Grade 9 Cornice Team has put an
extensive amount of time and hard work into fabricating a stunning
digital school magazine consisting of poems, writings and fine art by the
students of grade 9. All that we have learned and experienced this year
has been documented in this magazine. Everytime we flipped through
the cornice, our appreciation for Grade 9’s work grew exponentially. We
have been through so much in the past 2 years, and every lesson we
have learned is mirrored into this project. We would also like to
acknowledge the dedication and the important guidance provided to us
by our teachers. We appreciate the support, enthusiasm and
encouragement of our dear friends in making this cornice even more
attractive.
Creating a digital cornice is definitely not an easy task. What you see in
front of you is an ordinary magazine, but for us, it is the result of
multiple late nights and never ending zoom calls.
From editing over 60 articles and poems, fixing tiny text alignments and
to designing the entire layout from scratch, our cornice experience as
creators has definitely shown us the true meaning of diligence.
