How do you define ‘health’?
Do you determine health on
your waist size? Maybe it’s
more about your weight. Or
perhaps it’s based on how
you feel. The truth is health
is measured by a combination
of factors — like energy,
frequency of exercise, diet,
stress, toxic levels from the
environment, and of course
how you feel overall. Your
health is a constantly shifting
series of variables, of which
much of it you have control over.
What you eat, whether you exercise, how you de-stress, and your quality of
sleep is generally something you have control over; in contrast to your genetic
make-up, which is something you don’t have control over and it’s the obstacles
you can’t control that are the impediments to your health. One major
impediment a lot of people share in common, which can be changed is diet.
When a poor diet is habituated into lifestyle, there are certain nutrient
deficiencies. When the body is void of essential nutrients, it is incapable of
working properly and healing itself.
Take for example the brain. When the brain lacks proper glucose from whole
grains, and vitamins and minerals from vegetables it experiences difficulty
thinking and problem solving, with an inability to cope with stress, all of which
often leads a person to feel depressed. A lack of vitamins and minerals can lead
to weak and brittle bones, fatigue, cardiovascular health, and that’s just the
start. Food is energy for the body and all of its organs, and when the body lacks
what it needs, it malfunctions. What’s more, research shows at least half
Americans aren’t achieving their daily nutrient requirements.
What’s the Solution?
First, you need to understand your own habits. Are you helping or hindering
yourself? The second step is to change the behavior. That may be making a goal
to exercise five times a week, or it may be eating more vegetables. In terms of
diet, there are supplements you can take.
