Medical & Health Information
There are times during the summer when a child will spend the night in the infirmary. We will notify you when your camper is in our camp infirmary overnight or if he/she is prescribed antibiotics.
If you receive a call from us DO NOT PANIC. Rest assured that your child is receiving the best possible medical attention. Often our doctor will leave a detailed message as a courtesy call and will not necessarily require a phone call back.
If your child should become seriously ill or suffer a major injury, we will notify you immediately. If we contact you but do not hear back from you and, if our medical physician makes the determination that he or she must proceed with a certain medication or medical protocol, we will of course proceed in the best interest of your child, as determined by that physician. All medical issues are governed by the terms of our application.
We take the health and safety of your child seriously and have strict health procedures that we follow. Our medical staff consults with cabin counsellors on their campers’ daily health habits, and they also advise the administration regarding all health and safety matters.
Our infirmary operates as a primary care clinic for the camp. Your child’s health record is stored there, and should they need medical assistance, we are well equipped to help them. Our medical staff consists of one physician, one head nurse and four nursing assistants. We have two nurses on duty 24 hours a day. In addition, close to 90% of our staff is certified Royal Life Saving Society Bronze Cross.
The infirmary is fully stocked with medical supplies to aid with everything from minor abrasions to more serious conditions. We also have a defibrillator on site. Please encourage your child to visit the infirmary to see the nurses if they feel bad or have any bites, rashes or abrasions.
If our medical staff feels that a camper needs treatment that we cannot provide, we have excellent medical facilities a short distance away in Haliburton. All of our doctors have special privileges at Haliburton Hospital so waiting time is minimal during a medical emergency. We also have a local dentist available if necessary.
DISCLOSURE: It is your responsibility as a parent to let us know everything emotionally, physically, psychologically and medically important about your child to allow for the best camping experience. Please be proactive about informing us of any issues or past behaviours. If your child takes medication regularly during the school year, and you are considering stopping that medication for the summer, you must discuss this with us in advance. It is essential to let us know if any information has changed on the medical form that was completed as part of your child’s registration package
