THE EGO
Slowly begins to emerge as baby turns toddler / preschooler
Operates using reality principle
It is the deciding agent of the personality
It considers the best response to situation
THE SUPER EGO
Develops near the end of the pre-school years or the end of the phallic stage
Embodies a person’s moral aspect
Provides standards for judgements and prohibitions.
THE TOPOGRAPHICAL METHOD
The unconscious. According to Freud, it continues to influence our behavior and experiences,
even though we are unaware of these underlying influences. It can include repressed feelings,
hidden memories, habits, thoughts, desires, and reactions.
The conscious. consists of everything inside of our awareness. This is the aspect of our mental
processing that we can think and talk about in a rational way.
The subconscious. Includes all mental activities which are not presently active but stored
somewhere in our memory. It can be easily accessed when required.
