Sociologist who try to account for the unequal distribution of wealth, power, and
prestige in human society lean toward either of two theories, the conflict and fundamentalist.

THEORIES
Conflict VS Functionalist
Conflict – a theory propounded by Karl Marx that claims society is in a state of perpetual
conflict due to competition for limited resources.
Functionalist – society is a system of interconnected parts that work together in harmony to
maintain a state of balance and social equilibrium for the whole.
SOCIAL MOBILITY
The movement of an individual or a group within a stratification system that change
the individual's or group's status in society.
Amount of social mobility in a society depends on two things:
1. Rules governing how to gain or keep their positions.
2. Can be influenced by structural changes.
