Disability Insurance
California State Disability (SDI)
If you experience a Short Term Disability claim, you are eligible for benefits provided by the state. California State Disability
Insurance (SDI) is a partial wage-replacement insurance plan for California workers. The SDI program is state-mandated and funded
through employee payroll deductions. SDI provides short-term benefits to eligible workers who suffer a loss of wages when they
are unable to work due to a non-work-related illness or injury, pregnancy or childbirth. For more information on eligibility, benefit
amounts and instructions on how to file a claim for the SDI program, please visit the EDD website at www.edd.ca.gov.
Anthem Blue Cross | Long Term Disability (LTD)
TeleSign offers you Long Term Disability (LTD) insurance which provides income replacement if you become disabled for an
extended period of time. If you become totally and permanently disabled, benefits begin 180 days after the start of your illness or
injury and will continue as long as you remain disabled up to Social Security Normal Retirement Age. LTD works with state disability
programs, Social Security, and any other group disability coverage to provide you with a combined monthly benefit equal to 60% of
your pre‐disability earnings, up to a maximum benefit of $10,000 per month.
TeleSign pays 100% of the LTD premium through salary gross-up. This means TeleSign will increase your salary by the appropriate
premium amount for your coverage, then withhold the premium amount as an after-tax deduction. Grossing up your benefits
ensures that if you ever do claim LTD benefits, your benefit payments will be tax-free.
Commuter Benefits (San Francisco Only)
Discovery Benefits | Transit and Parking (Pre Tax and Post Tax Contributions)
A commuter plan allows you to set aside pre-tax dollars for qualified transit, vanpooling and parking expenses. The IRS pre-tax
maximums for 2020 are $270 per month for mass transit and parking respectively.
This benefit allows you to pay for some, if not all, of your commuter expenses on a pre-tax basis. Discovery Benefits web portal will
allow you to purchase transit products with your debit card or through the “Pay the Provider” option on the consumer portal.
Transit and Vanpooling
Transit and vanpooling benefits let you pay for transportation to and from work with tax-free money. Examples of eligible
transportation for transit benefits include train, bus, subway and ferry. The Discovery Benefits debit card can be added as a
payment method in the Uber and Lyft apps. Commuter dollars can be used toward uberPOOL and Lyft Line rides in select cities.
Parking
This benefit allows you to save money when you pay for parking at or near the regular place of employment. Employees who use
park and ride facilities are also able to take advantage of this plan. Parking benefits aren’t available when employees park at or
near their residence or at a temporary work location. Commuter dollars can also be used to reserve or pre-pay for parking spots in
select cities by adding your Discovery Benefits debit card as a form of payment in the SpotHero app. For a full list of SpotHero-
friendly cities, go to spothero.com/cities.
Accessing Funds
There are a few ways you can access your commuter funds.
• You can use your Discovery Benefits debit card to pay providers directly at the time of service from your transit and/
or parking account.
• If a transit or parking facility doesn’t accept debit card payments, you can pay out of pocket and submit a
reimbursement request through the Benefits Mobile App by Discovery Benefits or your online account.
• Reimbursements via direct deposit are also available.
• Through the Discovery SmartCommute™ program, you can load commuter dollars onto a reloadable smart card in
select cities and easily transfer funds from your Discovery Benefits commuter account onto the card.
