EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE
PROGRAM
Volcom offers employees a confidential Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through Sun Life’s Guidance Resources. This
program offers you and your family members unlimited telephone counseling and/or up to 3 face-to-face sessions, for
a wide variety of issues, such as work related problems, marriage/family problems, alcohol/substance abuse, personal/
stress related issues, and psychological/psychiatric disorders. Telephone consultations are also available for legal issues.
H ACCESSING THE EAP:
Go to www.guidanceresources.com (Web ID: EAPBusiness) or call (877) 595-5281 to be connected
to an EAP counselor.
FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNTS
You can set aside money in Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) before taxes are deducted to pay for certain health and
dependent care expenses, lowering your taxable income and increasing your take home pay. Only expenses for services
incurred during the plan year are eligible for reimbursement from your accounts. A new enrollment is required each year, even
if you do not plan to change the amount(s) set aside. Please remember you must save your receipts, just in case WageWorks
needs a copy for verification. Also, all receipts should be itemized to reflect what product or service was purchased. Credit
card receipts are not sufficient per IRS guidelines.
Health Care Spending Account (HCSA)
This plan is used to pay for expenses not covered under your health plans, such as deductibles, coinsurance, copays, and
expenses that exceed plan limits. Employees may defer up to $2,600 pre-tax per year.
IMPORTANT: Please note that HSA Medical plan participants may only participate in the Health Care Spending Account to
cover out-of-pocket Dental and Vision expenses through the Limited Purpose Health Care Plan.
Dependent Care Assistance Plan (DCAP)
This plan is used to pay for eligible expenses you incur for child care, or for the care of a disabled dependent, while you
work. Employees may defer up to $5,000 pre-tax per year.
FSAs offer sizable tax advantages. The trade‐off is that these accounts are subject to strict IRS regulations. According to
these regulations, up to $500 of any unspent funds remaining in your account at the end of the plan year will carry-over to
the next plan year, and unspent funds above $500 will be forfeited. We encourage you to plan ahead to make the most of
your FSA dollars. If you are unable to estimate your health care and dependent care expenses accurately, it is better to be
conservative and underestimate rather than overestimate your expenses.
Please note that Volcom’s FSA begins January 1st and runs through December 31st.
SUPPLEMENTAL BENEFITS
You may purchase individual policies from Unum including Voluntary Accident Off-Job, Critical Illness (including Cancer),
Individual Short Term Disability and Whole Life insurance. Unum policies offer direct-to-the-policyholder cash payouts
to help cover what other insurance doesn’t. Should you elect these plans, your premiums will be taken through payroll
deductions on a pre-tax basis.
