After you begin taking care of your own needs, you will be a much more nurturing
and caring mother, wife and companion.
So, if you feel you are ready, you can begin practising this philosophy today.
Set aside some time for yourself tonight for a quiet bubble bath. Have your
husband or a good friend tend to your children for an entire hour. Get a book
you’ve been dying to read as well as some candles and incense. You may also
want to listen to some relaxing music or put earplugs in your ears, whichever
applies to your specific situation. Make a DO NOT DISTURB sign to hang on the
door and lock yourself in the bathroom for one full hour.
Right now, sixty minutes may seem like a very long time for a bath, but this will
allow you to take your time and fully relax without feeling rushed. You will be
able to dry off in peace without hearing the sound of small hands banging on the
door or small voices whining “Mommy, are you done yet?” You may even have
sufficient time to leisurely shave your legs or give yourself a manicure. Wouldn’t
that be wonderful?
Although an hour may seem like a long time to be locked in the bathroom, right
now, you’ll probably be surprised at how quickly the time goes by when you are
pampering yourself. In order to fully appreciate this experience there is one thing
you must remember.
Do not, whatever you do, let yourself feel guilty. You deserve to pamper yourself
once in a while. And, doesn’t your family deserve to get the very best of you? You
bet they do! I am sure they will appreciate a less stressed out and more cheerful
you. As a result of taking some time for yourself, the new you will be better able
to handle your duties as wife and mother than when you felt overworked and
under-appreciated.
Be sure to take the time to nurture yourself in small ways, too as this is equally
important. You should try to do this EVERY day. As most women find they
require a bit of coaching at first, the next worksheet will give you some guidance in
this department.
Once you have worked through any feelings of guilt should they arise, you will
notice that you are a much happier and healthier person as a result of taking some
“ME! “ time. After all, we all deserve our fair share of happiness. Don’t we? Of
course! You deserve it and your family deserves it, too. So go for it!
