Deployment of AI Driven Mammogram for Breast Cancer Screening at the
Population Scale
Professor Dr. Alex R Cook
National University of Singapore, Singapore
ABSTRACT
Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly being proposed as a tool to support, or even replace,
radiologists. One application area is to mammography-based screening and diagnosis, with several
tools reaching the market that claim improved accuracy, efficiency, and scalability. However, evaluating
these systems in a way that is meaningful for clinical practice and policy remains challenging. This talk
outlines some of the considerations in the assessment of AI tools for mammography, focusing on how
to move beyond technical performance metrics toward evaluations that reflect real-world use, with
application to Singapore's recent adoption of AI for routine use in its breast cancer screening
programme.
