Paula Danoff
CEO & President, EAC
The Evanston Art Center is honored to present the
inaugural Curatorial Fellows of 2020-2021 and Co-
Curators, Alpha M. Bruton, Curator of Phantom
Gallery Chicago Network, and Adero Knott,
Disability/Accessibility Curator, and founder of AK
Prosthetics. This major exhibition features works by
Black, Indigenous, People of Color, Women,
LGBTQIA+ and Disabled artists from the Chicago
metropolitan area and nation. The Evanston Art
Center Exhibition Committee developed the
Curatorial Fellowship to center BIPOC and
intersectional voices by creating diverse, inclusive,
and accessible opportunities for underrepresented
curators and artists.
Over the course of Alpha Bruton and Adero
Knott's 15-month residency at the Evanston Art
Center, we have seen powerful and thought-
provoking programming including Creative
Conversations, a lectures series with artists,
curators, and art professionals examining the
ways in which the city influences art; Ceremonial
Teas in the Context of African American Social
Life, a hybrid virtual and in-person program
presenting the history of the tea ceremony in
African American culture and featuring guest
presenter, Larissa J. Akinremi, and speaker,
Taurean J. Webb; a series of Art Talks exploring
ways artists examine their environment through
Racism, Spirituality, Documentation and Art as
Wellness; and culminating final exhibition, Cara Feeney
Examining the State of Our Environment, on Director of Exhibitions, EAC
display in the Evanston Art Center’s Nelli Bar &
Paul Wieghardt Gallery.
