Subtract 38 from 73.

Step 1. We cannot subtract 8 from 3 in the ones column.
T O So, we borrow 1 ten from 7 tens under the tens (T) column.

3 5 13 ones – 8 ones = 5 ones
Write 5 under the ones (O) column.

Step 2. In the tens (T) column, we are left with 6 tens.
Subtract the digits under the tens (T) column.

6 tens – 3 tens = 3 tens
Write 3 under the tens (T) column.

The difference between 73 and 38 is 35.
