So now that you've obtained your DUNS number and have matched your products and services to a particular NAIC code, you'll need to register your business in SAM (System for Award Management) in order to participate in any government contracting.
SAM is a database used by federal agencies to find contractors. Your small business' profile in SAM is like a resume, you want to ensure that all information is accurate to increase your chances of winning a government contract.
Using SAM, you'll be able to also certify your business with the SBA (Small Business Administration ) If it falls under any socio- economic statuses (e.g. woman-owned, veteran-owned, minority-owned or disadvantaged). We'll discuss more on how to utilize your socio-economic status a little later in the guidebook.
