During the Civil War period, specifically from 1861-1862, Harrison Hall served as a war hospital tending to many Confederate officers including Colonel Erasmus Burt during the Battle of Balls Bluff and General Robert E. Lee after the 2nd Battle of Manassas. Other famous visitors include General “Stonewall” Jackson, General James Ewell Brown “Jeb” Stuart, General James Longstreet, General Lewis Armistead, and Poet Laureate James Dickey.
For over 100 years Harrison Hall remained in the Harrison family. In 1950 Mary Conrad, the last Harrison to own this extraordinary property, sold the estate to Mr. Trone, marking the end of an era. While under the ownership of Mr. Trone, Harrison Hall became a boarding house. After the fire in 1979, the house was sold in a tax sale and in 1980 Mr. Lou LeHane purchased the house. The LeHane’s spent abundant time, money and effort restoring the extraordinary house and renamed it the ‘Glenfiddich House’. The family owned the Glenfiddich Farm in Leesburg and asked the famous Scottish distillery owners of that name if they could use the name for their Leesburg house. The distillery owners agreed—as long as a bottle of Glenfiddich malt whisky was always on display. To this day a bottle of Glenfiddich holds a place of prominence. Today, the house is owned by David and Melanie Miles who acquired the property from the LeHane’s in 1993.
