Count Gustav Brahe, the count of Vi- singsborg, who was known for his courtship of King Sigismund's sister Princess Aniia, had permanently left Sweden after the Battle of Stånge- bro in 1398 and advanced in Polish service to field marshal and died in Danzig in 1614. Count Gustav Brahe also stayed with Gertrud Hollen- ders at Västergatan during his stay in Malmö, but after a while, he was unable to pay for lodging, meals, and gambling there. As he did not pay the debt despite reminders, Gertrud Hollenders, who was a resolute and fearless woman, asked the bailiff Peder Hansen on June 26 of that year
for an "arrest" on him, i.e. for him to be held by the bailiff or in the city jail until he paid his debt. The bailiff granted the arrest request, stating that he could not refuse to do so on the King's behalf, but he took an oath from Madam Gertrud that she would keep the bailiff harmless in any way for the action. It is not specified how the case ended, but it is likely that
it was resolved amicably with the help of council of the realm member Erik Gustavsson. Riksrådet/The Riksdag member Erik Gustavsson had with him, in addition to his son Sten, his Swedish clerk Lauritz and his and his son's servants Sten Eriksson and Nils Christoffersson, who were all lodged at Gertrud Hollenders' boarding house. The aforementioned December evening just before Christmas 1601, there was a party at Erik Gustavsson's boarding house, likely organized by his son Sten, and for the entertainment, in addition to one of his assisting musicians, Johan spe- leman, who on June 7, 1596 had been hired by the mayor and council as the city musician with the obligation to keep an additional three musi-
