On July 10, 1809, Mayor Nordlindh received permission from the magistrates "to temporarily close Kansligatan in regards to the ong- oing renovation" of the upper and lower floors of properties number 353 and 354. This renovation was completed during the spring of 1810. During this time, he sold properties number 352-354 on March 16th of the same year for 22,000 riksdaler with the right to take possession on Michaelmas. He exchanged these properties for merchant Lorens Kock- um's property number 220, III, in quarter number 45 St. Peter at Os- tergatan, valued at 6,333 riksdaler. Kockum paid a middle fee of 15,666 riksdaler. The buyers received notice of the sale on March 19th, April 16th, and May 14th of that year.
PER GUSTAV BACHMANN
The new owners of "the most beautiful house in the city," according to Halling's previously cited expression, were from March 1, 1817, part- ners in the business firm Barkman & Bergh. The actual founder of this reputable and significant business was Pehr (Petter) Gustav Barkman, who, born in Jönköping on April 8, 1788, obtained the status of mer- chant and citizen in Malmö on January 27, 1817. Christian Bergh was also a partner in the firm.
