July 1st 1908, The Hotel Tunneln came about, and the fist hotel guest were checked in. owned by Anders Ahlstrom and the current hotel director, Elias Smith, together, but from the beginning of 1909, Smith, born on November 17th, 1870, became the sole owner of the hotel and restaurant business. On January 13th, 1883, Hans Friis' wife, Laura Cecilia Barkman, passed away and her estate was settled on April 26th of the same year. Through inheritance, on August 4th of that year, with the sons, businessman Ernst Gustav Gotthold Friis, born September 11th, 1854, and student Fredrik Trap Friis, born October 13th, 1865, Hans Friis became the sole owner of the property number 11 in the Svanen district, with certain conditions, and obtained a land title on March 9th, 1885. During his ownership, Consul Hans Friis made seve- ral significant changes, mainly to the store building. In the years 1878- 1879, this building was completely redesigned for residential use on all three floors, with the lower floor being used as a bank location for the Kristianstad Single Bank. During his ownership, in 1881, a cigar shop was set up on the street corner, and in 1884, stylish iron gates were installed in place of the unappealing walled gate to the former alarm street (number 346) at Adelgatan.
After Hans Friis' death on July 8, 1887, his son, Consul Ernst Friis, who died on July 24, 1918, became the owner of all the properties in the estate through inheritance on December 16, 1887 and received a legal title on November 4, 1889. Later owners of property number 11 in the
