Another book I constantly
borrowed from the school library
was the MacDonald World Air
Power Guide. It covered the
aircraft of the worlds air forces in
the 1960’s. If you think todays air
forces operate a diverse range of
aircraft, you need to thumb
through the pages of this book;
because you’ve seen nothing.

During the 1980’s there was a
rash of self published books
detailing veterans wartime
experiences. One of the best was
the late Ken McDonalds book,
Coomalie Charlie’s Commandos
detailing the history of No. 31
Beaufighter Squadron. The title
eludes to the fact that the
squadron was based at Coomalie
Creek.
