When Hugo Hooftman published

1965 it was a revelation. Very little
                                                                      was known about Russian aviation
at that time and this was a best
seller in aviation circles. Now we
know that it was full of errors and
                                                                      assumptions and today the book

                                                                      this book.

First published in the late 1960’s Edward
Jablonski’s book Flying Fortress is an
interesting mix of aviation history and
personal anecdotes of Boeing B 17
crewmen during World War 2. It’s still the
best history of the Flying Fortress
              published. It’s profusely illustrated and
well researched but I find Jablonski’s
flowery writing style a little irritating.
