The Game, November 2008 5 Northlands Meet Wraps Up
for 2008. Dale Saunders and Rick Hedge rounded out the top  ve train- ers.
50th Season Wraps up at Assiniboia
Assiniboia Downs, in Winnipeg, Manitoba wrapped up its 50th season of racing on September 21.

The 2008 thoroughbred meet at Northlands Park in Edmonton, Alberta wrapped up on October 5 with some familiar names in the top ranks.
The usual suspects found themselves at the top of the leader board for the trainers.
Trainer Jared Brown, a new comer to the top ranks,  nished in second with 35 wins, 29 seconds and 29 thirds in 212 starts and $256,548 in earnings.
Trainers Ron Smith and Greg Tracy, who duked it out last season for top spot,  nished  rst and third respec- tively with Robertino Diodoro (third in 2007)  nishing second in the rankings
Quincy Welch, Stephan Heiler, and Rickey Walcott once again occupied the top positions in the jockey stand- ings with Shannon Beauregard and Rico Walcott rounding out the top  ve.
2006 and 2007 Leading Trainer, Martin Drexler, went “back to the basics” after a slow start to the season and  nished up third in the stand-
ings for number of wins (34) but like previous years he had the highest earn- ings ($406,769) and the highest win percentage (25% 34 wins in 136 starts) of the top  ve trainers.
Rounding out the top  ve were Tom Gardipy Jr. (2nd in 2007) and Norman Anderson (4th in 2007).

TRAKUS - Deauville in France is installing the Trakus system similar to what is used at Woodbine for their meetings in October.
After completing a study of race goers and their comments on viewing and follow- ing their horses, it was decided to install Trakus to improve the quality of racing and attract new audiences. “Installation of the Trakus system is yet more proof of our desire to present new ideas. The entire public, the industry professionals and seasoned bettors, will bene t,” said a representative. (Nigel Grif ths)
