WEG Announces HKJC Agreement
Woodbine Entertainment Group (WEG) and The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) announced an agreement in which Canadian customers can now wager directly into the HKJC betting pools, effective October 23 from Sha Tin Race Course in Hong Kong.
The HKJC’s world-class race meetings will now also be broadcast live in Cantonese to Canadian viewers via the distribution platform of TVBI Company Limited (TVBI) and aired on Fairchild TV.
Horse racing fans in British Columbia are expected to have access to the HKJC wagering pools by December.
T.I.P. Introduces Recreational Riding Program
To showcase Thoroughbreds that are not competing in shows but are still successful in a second career as recreational mounts, The Jockey Club Thoroughbred Incentive Program (T.I.P.) announced the Thoroughbred Recreational Riding Incentive Program.
The program is designed for Thoroughbred owners who spend most of their time outside of the show ring, whether on trails (including competitive trail rides), endurance rides, or even driving.

2016 Report of Mares Bred Statistics
The Jockey Club released the Report of Mares Bred (RMB) statistics for the 2016 breeding season. Based on RMBs received through October 15, 2016, The Jockey Club reports that 1,423 stallions covered 33,746 mares in North America during 2016.
The number of stallions declined 1.8% from the 1,449 reported at this time in 2015, and the number of mares bred decreased 2.5% from the 34,627 reported last year.
Included in the top ten states and provinces by number of mares reported is Ontario which saw a decrease of 2.56% in the number of stallions bred (39 in 2015 - 38 in 2016) and a decrease of 4.52% in the number of mares bred (797 in 2015 - 761 in 2016).
