New Indoor Equi-ciser Training Facility at Assiniboia
Spring training at Assiniboia Downs officially began on Wednesday, March 1. Horsemen were allowed to access the stables and backstretch area beginning the weekend of February 25-26, 2006, in order to bring their horses on to the grounds and prepare them for the start of spring training. The tentatively scheduled date for the start of the live season is Saturday, May 6, 2006.
As soon as the 2006 live season calendar is confirmed, the entire 2006 race calendar and stakes race schedule will be posted on the web site.
During the past “off-season”, Assiniboia Downs constructed a new “indoor” thoroughbred equi-ciser treadmill training facility. It is located in the north-east corner of the backstretch. This equi-ciser training facility will allow horsemen to work their horses out on this indoor treadmill during times of inclement or cooler weather. Training sessions must be booked with the attendant in charge of this facility.
