It is being hailed as an overwhelming majority. Members of the CTHS of Ontario marked their ballots in December in favour of keeping the thoroughbred sales at Woodbine.
In an effort to obtain a consensus from their membership, the CTHS (Ontario) Board of Directors left the decision up to the results of the ballots which were sent out to the Ontario CTHS members in late November, 2005. A total of 606 ballots were sent out to the full members of the CTHS of Ontario of which 316 responses were received by the deadline date.
The ballots were kept in their sealed envelopes and deposited into a ballot box which was given to the CTHS auditors who then counted the ballots in the separate board room.
The final result: 243 to remain at Woodbine, 67 for the Arkell proposal and 6 spoiled ballots.
The issue of whether to keep the sales at Woodbine or invest in the Arkell site in Guelph, Ontario had tied up the board for many months and now, with the consensus of the membership, the
CTHS of Ontario board members are going forward and working on the details of the Woodbine proposal.
The CTHS is very hopeful that all the parties involved will work together to provide a successful venue for thoroughbred sales in Ontario.
In regards to the 2006 CTHS Yearling and Mixed Sales, Woodbine Entertainment Group has provided the CTHS of Ontario with a letter stating that they will extend their original agreement with the same terms & conditions as the previous years. It was also stated in the letter that the lease was extended on the basis that the CTHS had finally chosen a direction to follow and that the extension will allow them to work together to finalize the details of the longer term agreement.
