Three time Canadian Champion, One For Rose, was the opening day sale topper of Keeneland’s January Horses of All Ages Sale, which began January 9 in Kentucky.
The 7-year-old broodmare prospect brought a final bid of $875,000 from Aki Kato, as agent for
Isami Nakamura, owner of K1 Farm in
Japan.
TucciStablesowners,LouandCarloTucci, bothwatchedtheir beloved mare being sold live via internet at separate locations.
“I had my expectations but she exceeded them,” said Carlo Tucci, “At one time I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.”
The sale came less than a month after One For Rose was named Champion Older Mare for the third consecutive year at the 2005 Sovereign Awards on December 16.
One For Rose was retired from racing in October 2005 after sustaining an injury, which although was not career ending, it was felt by owners, Tucci Stables, that she had done enough in her career.
One For Rose retired with a record of 15 wins, the majority of which were in Stakes company, and more than $1 million in purse earnings.
According to the Bloodhorse website the new owners will either breed the mare and she will eventually be sent to Japan.

“She was a once in a lifetime horse,” said Lou Tucci, “How many of those do you get in a lifetime.”
The Tuccis say they plan to use their earnings to stay in the game and build on their stock, improving on the quality to be able to win the Oaks or the Queens Plate.
“We plan to re-invest in 2-year-old Canadian breds,” said Carlo who mentioned that they would be attending the Ocala 2-year-olds in training sale and the Calder 2-year-old sale. “And we’ll be looking at any private deals as well.”
“We’re looking to buy Ontario sired and Canadian bred horses.” said Lou, “Hopefully we can pick out another ‘diamond in the rough’. I hope this doesn’t become a climax for us. We will hopefully be able to stay in
or continue to race her
the top 10 owners at Woodbine and we realize that she (One For Rose) was a big part of why we were there.”
The Fed Returns to Ontario
The Fed returns to Ontario for the 2006 breeding season in order to participate in the Ontario Sire Stakes program. The eleven year old stallion will stand at Curraghmore Farm, near Waterdown, Ontario (Vera Simpson,
Owner/ Mgr). He is owned by Glenview Stables Ltd. and was bred and raced for the owners of Glenview Stables, Dick and Jo Ellen Shaw, winning the 2000 Dominion Day Handicap G3.
The Shaws also bred and raced Champions Woolloomooloo and Heliotrope and stakes winners Love View (1996 Coronation G1C), Nithi (1997 Bison City G1C), Gudai Might (1997 Cup & Saucer G1C), Love a Ruckus (2000 La Prevoyante and Passing Mood) and Silver Nithi (2002 Labatt Bison City).
The Fed is by Champion, Key to the Mint
and is out of Aletrice, by Tom Rolfe who sired
champion 2 year-old, Hoist the Flag. In fact,
The Fed is “full of the blood of champions” with
9 champions or champion producers appearing
in the first three generations of his remarkable pedigree. Besides being inbred 3 X 3 to chef de race Ribot, he is also inbred 3 X 5 to chef de race Princequillo, causing his dosage profile to be
tilted toward stamina and distance even though he won races from 7 furlongs to 1-1/4 miles in length.
Co-author of the book “Patterns of Greatness II”, Anne Peters says, “World Champion and influential sire, Ribot is rapidly disappearing from today’s stallion pedigrees. One of the only remaining stallions with a significant concentration of Ribot’s genes is The Fed, who is inbred 3 X 3.”
The Fed is a suitable outcross for mares with the genes of all of the stallions targeted in the past several years for inbreeding. His pedigree is not influenced by Northern Dancer, Raise a Native, Mr. Prospector, Seattle Slew, Secretariat, Buckpasser, Bold Ruler, or Turn To.
Breeders who would like to take advantage of the Ontario Sire Stakes program , but avoid the two most prominent of these, Northern Dancer and Raise a Native, only have a choice of 10 advertised stallions standing in Ontario in 2006. Of those ten stallions, only The Fed and one other are unrestricted graded stakes winners.

Kiridashi now Standing in Alberta
Queen’s Plate winner, Niigon Retired
2004 Queen’s Plate winner, Niigon has been retired from racing after an ankle chip in his right front ankle was discovered after his fifth place finish in the Gr3 Hal’s Hope Handicap at Gulfstream Park on January 7.
According to reports, trainer Eric Coatrieux noticed the five-year-old colt “was a bit off” and subsequent x-rays showed a chip.
After his Queen’s Plate win, the Chiefswood Stables owned Niigon, went on to place second in the 2004 Prince of Wales S. and last year’s Gr3 Dominion Day H. In his two-year-old campaign he was third in the 2004 Gr2 Jim Dandy S. and 2003 Grey Breeders’ Cup S. On the board in 14 of 23 starts, he retires with four wins and earnings of $1,099,532.
Stallion Kiridashi (Bold Ruckus - Sharp Briar, by Briartic) has been sold and is standing the 2006 season for new owners Al & Bunny Noren in Alberta.
Kiridashi was formerly owned by Barbara Minshall and had been standing at Pak Stud in Orangeville in 2005.
He is the sire of 14 stakes horses including Financingavailable ($370,320), Bosskiri ($218153) and Dashing Admiral ($215,399) and has been a leading sire in Canada since entering stud in 1999.
He is standing for $3,000 in 2006. Call 780-694-2402 for more information.
First Foal for Perfect Soul
The first foal for Grade 1 winner and Canadian Champion, Perfect Soul, was a Pennsylvania-bred colt born January 17 for breeders Sez Who Thoroughbreds and Aron Yagoda. The colt is the second foal out of their winning Unbridled’s Song mare, Unbridled’s Amour.
Perfect Soul (Sadler's Wells--Ball Chairman, by Secretariat) is currently standing for a fee of $15,000 at Darby Dan
Farm near Lexington, Kentucky. According to recent advertisements, the owner of the stallion, Canadian diamond prospector, Charles Fipke, is offering “Dollars or Diamonds” for the owners of the first 10 Grade 1 and the first 10 Grade 2 producing mares who breed to Perfect Soul stating that, “Producing a great thoroughbred can be as difficult as finding
a great diamond field.”
