Experience a Recipe for Success
Colebrook Farms longtime Manager Gayle Bosscher is camera shy however she is not shy when it comes to ensuring the Broodmare operation runs smoothly.
Gayle and her husband Larry Smelser have
lived at the farm since 2005 and both oversee the breeding division with Gail coordinating everything to do with the mares and Larry handling the stallions. Kathy Lowe Chase is essential in keeping the barn organized while Steve Frost and Reinal Martinez help to ensure everything runs smoothly in the breeding shed.
Despite having a horse background Gayle was not working with horses when Ken Denouden talked her into working with his hunter/jumper horses. Gayle then went to work for Deo Maharaj of the Trini Group Ltd. at his King City farm.
She began working with John Brnjas in 1989 when he bred his mare Regent Goddess to Tanks Prospect. The resulting 1990 foal was a lly named Heavenly Prospect (trained by Frank Passero) and represented the start of a breeding and racing operation that would eventually become John’s Colebrook Farms.
Gayle, who had other Frank Passero horses in her care, then purchased a farm in Sutton, Ontario where
she raised her three children, Denton and Denyse McClachrie and Josh Bosscher.
Denyse has been training at Woodbine since 2007 and enjoyed a successful season last year with stable stars Bourbon First, a winner of 5 races (including
his last three) in 2016 for owner Ryan Kerbel, and Clearer View, with 3 wins and a game third in the Labeeb Stakes for owners Ryan and Barry Kerbel and Network Stables.
Denton works for the Condrain Group in Concord, Ontario while Josh works for Trisan in Schomberg, Ontario.
Today Colebrook Farms sits on 300 acres cornered by O’Bairn Road and 5th Concession in Uxbridge. the original main farm was expanded and is divided into three divisions, Colebrook Farms Training Centre, Colebrook Farms Stallion Station, and Colebrook Farms Breeding Division.
Today, Gayle and her crew have 120 horses in her care at any given time for John and Colebrook Farm’s clients and have 60 mares due to foal at the farm in 2017.
