A set of horses for Trainer Paul Buttigieg head out to the training track at Woodbine on March 6.
Paul Buttigieg shipped in 18 horses when the backstretch opened on February 28 and will have a total of 30 horses in his barn for 2017.
A multiple Graded Stakes winning trainer, Paul is coming off his 40th year of training at Woodbine in 2016 when he recorded 17 wins, 27 seconds and 15 thirds in 161 starts with purse earnings totaling more than $625,000.
Paul’s homebred, Thor’s Rocket, a now four year old gelding by Old Forester - Glory Royale, by Tethra, owned in partnership with Gus Vlahos, was the winner of the Vice Regent Stakes in 2016 after recording three previous wins that year.
Paul’s best years thus far were in 2013 and 2014 when he earned more than $1 million in purses each
year.
In 2013, homebred Phil’s Dream, by Philanthropist
- Dream A Dream (GB), by Emperor Jones, recorded multiple stakes wins including the G1 Nearctic Stakes and was named 2013’s Sovereign Awards Champion Sprinter. He came back the following year in 2014
to win the New Providence and Ontario Jockey Club Stakes and was a game second in the G2 Highlander Stakes and was a close second in the G2 Connaught Cup Stakes in 2015.
Previous notable success came in 2002 and 2003 when Strait from Texas, owned by James Michael, was at her best winning the 2002 Ontario Colleen Stakes at Woodbine and the 2003 Hillsborough Stakes at Tampa Bay before returning to Woodbine to win the G2 Nassau Stakes.

The Silent Name (JPN) - Quiet Request, by Petionville  lly bred by Track West Racing Inc. is owned by Samotowka Stables, Charlie Buscaglia, Kevin Cullen and Kate Cullen. She recorded her  rst of cial work of as a three year old on March 10 going 3 furlongs in 38.40 on the training track at Woodbine. Read full Story
